Pathways Toward Economic Empowerment with Decent Work for ASEAN Migrant Workers: A white Paper on Migrant Workers in ASEAN Sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry

This paper was initiated as part of the ASEAN-Japan Economic Co-Creation Vision by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI). The study is conducted by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC), with the ASEAN CSR Network serving as the Sector Champion for Responsible and Inclusive Business. Together with other key partners, they are focusing on addressing migrant worker issues and identifying best practices implemented by both the public and private sectors, including Japanese institutions that have longstanding relationships with ASEAN countries. The findings from this paper will serve as a foundation for a seminar where stakeholders can discuss the paper's contents and share best practices among themselves. Ultimately, the aim is to provide recommendations that promote the fair, respectful, and dignified treatment of migrant workers, thereby contributing to the economic and social development of countries and societies.
